Now airing on ESPN2 -- Six episodes showcasing the saltwater fly fishing passion of seven world-renowned anglers: a legendary news anchor, famous actor, angling legend, acclaimed author, visionary industry leader, celebrated photographer, accompanied by a Bonefish & Tarpon Trust board member.

Pirates of the Flats is a 6-episode series airing on ESPN2.  The series is set on the beautiful Bahamian island of Abaco and hosted by the guides and staff at Abaco Lodge.  The six episodes will be re-broadcast starting in mid-February and running through June of this year.  Here is a listing of the six episode titles:

"The Cast"

"Heaven on Earth"

"A Bigger Fish"

"School of Fish"

"A Fish Tail"

"Magnroves & Grassroots"

Luminary anglers Tom Brokaw, Michael Keaton, Lefty Kreh, Yvon Chouinard, Thomas McGuane, and Val Atkinson pursue bonefish off the island of Abaco in the Bahamas and learn why this important saltwater game fish should be protected for future generations.  Underwater photography, computer animations and evening round-table discussions all serve to enhance and reinforce the educational messages of habitat stewardship and conservation.

Learn about the bonefish tagging program and the important research being conducted in Florida, the Bahamas and Belize.  Note: there is a similar tagging program underway in the Hawaiian Islands for two species of Pacific bonefish.  This series also highlights the importance of proper handling of bonefish and the care required by all anglers and guides to ensure the fish survives release.  A few simple steps (from hookset to release) will greatly increase the chance of a bonefish avoiding peril at the hands of it's greatest predator ... the shark.  And for the angler who has yet to pursue bonefish on a saltwater flat, there is plenty of invaluable information on casting, presentation of the fly, stripping the fly to resemble bonefish prey ... all interspersed with numerous examples of how to work with your guide.

Pirates of the Flats was created in cooperation with Bonefish and Tarpon Trust.  For the last decade, BTT has been pioneering groundbreaking research to help us understand the interdependence between flats fish species, anglers and economies.  The organization's global vision of science-based conservation is leading the way to find long-term solutions to create sustainable fisheries management models that help anglers and political leaders come together to ensure strong fisheries into the future.  Learn more about BTT and join at
