Arctic char

Arctic char are very similar to their close cousin, Dolly Varden, in appearance and are often indistinguishable. However, Dolly Varden have a slightly squarer tail and smaller spots than the Arctic char. Arctic char are native to Arctic, sub-Arctic and alpine lakes and coastal waters. No other freshwater fish is found as far north. The Arctic char is closely related to both salmon and trout and has many characteristics of both. Arctic char average between 2 and 5 pounds with record-sized fish exceeding 20 pounds.
